Position Summary:
The Senior Director Market Insights and Forecasting will manage and direct the functional area responsible for global insights development (market research) and forecasting to support the strategic and tactical decision making process to maximize the potential of Retrophin’s pipeline projects, in-line commercial products and potential business development opportunity assessments. This position will work cross-functionally to advise, consult and ensure quality analyses and insights are communicated throughout the organization. This role will be responsible for effectively managing and advise a team of direct reports to determine the proper methodology and appropriate tools/techniques needed to answer critical business questions. This role will be instrumental in directing the organization to establish realistic product performance expectations and goals, using accurate forecasting capabilities. This position will be required to have a high level of competences and expertise in pharma commercialization strategies, market research, forecasting and analysis in order to develop insights to further shape Retrophin’s expanding its global commercial footprint and becoming a leading rare disease company.

Essential Functions:
  • Responsible for leading the global insight development and forecasting functional area, including primary and secondary market research initiatives for pipeline and in-line brand-teams by directing the team and leveraging appropriate vendors to utilize the best methodologies and techniques to deliver the necessary insights and provide accurate performance expectations.
  • Key contributor in internal commercial global, US and EU cross functional teams (brand, sales, payer and core etc.) to directly establish and refine commercialization strategy and tactics needed for full potential for the various brands by providing comprehensive insights on market, physician, patient and payer dynamics along with current performance trends.
  • Direct the effort, by partnering with the brand teams and commercial leadership, to identify and prioritize knowledge and insight needs to develop appropriate overall approach and design.
  • Responsible for directing Global Forecasting efforts with US and EU General Managers and brand teams to develop multi-year monthly patient, unit and revenue forecasts of in-line commercial and launch products by leveraging historical product performance trends, the latest primary/secondary market research insights and soliciting team inputs to design and build accurate, actionable and evidenced based forecasting models.
  • Responsible for providing the latest demand and revenue estimates and projections for month-end, quarter-end and year-end performance to the General Manager, Executive Team, brand leads, finance and investor relations groups.
  • Vital contributor in a cross functional group responsible Corporate Global Long-Range-Planning (LRP) process for the pipeline and approved in-line products.
  • Responsible for creating/establishing a highly capable, productive and proficient team by providing the strong leadership, guidance, development opportunities and motivation.
  • Develop, monitor and manage budgets for all forecasting and market research projects.
  • Ensure all marketing research and forecasting activities are conducted in accordance with financial and ethical compliance guidelines.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree, MBA or MA preferred. Degree concentration in marketing research, business, marketing, life sciences or other related fields. Equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience may be considered.
  • 12+ years of combined relevant work experience in commercial operations/sales operations, forecasting, marketing sciences, market research or strategic brand consulting in the Biotech or Pharmaceutical industry; minimum of 8 years with progressive leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in successfully manage and direct commercial/sales operations and/or market research functional areas with a highly motivated, capable and productive team.
  • Previous experience leading global/international market research initiatives is highly desired.
  • Proven ability to develop overall insights approach and critical thinking needed to inform and support the development of biopharmaceutical commercialization and brand strategy and planning activities.
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in the latest global market research methodologies and techniques for HCPs, Patients/Caregivers and Payers including Market Landscape Assessments, Patient Journeys Lifecycle Management, Disease Awareness, Brand Tracking (ATU), Segmentation, Positioning, Messaging Evaluation, Concept Testing, Pricing/Reimbursement and Forecasting.
  • Proven experience in various analytical and forecasting methodologies leveraging historical product demand, primary and secondary research insights along with team inputs to design and build accurate forecasting models using MS Excel and/or other forecasting applications.
  • Exceptional analytical reasoning and problem-solving capabilities with demonstrated abilities to think creatively and strategically to solve and answer key business questions/problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, with a professional demeanor and the ability to interact with all levels of management, colleagues and vendors.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills with the ability to present at the executive level with the capability to examine and project appropriate details.
  • Well organized with the ability to multitask, prioritize and manage shifting responsibilities in a dynamic, cross-functional teamwork environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to multi-task and manage complexity.
  • Ability to adapt to modification and changes to project plans, demonstrating flexibility to implement new strategies and tactics to accommodate these changes.
  • Ability to travel 10-20% domestic and internationally.
